Position Description

Internship Summary: The Distinguished Events Intern will primarily assist with projects related to the American Cancer Society Discovery Ball 2011 and Skyline Soiree 2011. Responsibilities will include: preparation for ACS Discovery Ball and Skyline Soiree auctions; writing item descriptions and handling acknowledgements for the silent auctions; data entry and report generation in event software, assisting with guest list and seating assignments; assist with the preparation of the program books; work on event volunteer assignments and communications. The intern will report to the Director of Distinguished Events in our Illinois Division office located at 225 North Michigan Avenue in Chicago. The opportunity begins in September and continues through December. This is a non-paid position and is not eligible for benefits.
Position Requirements
Undergraduate college students must meet the following application criteria:
- Full-time student, having completed their freshman year of college;
- Have a minimum of a B Average (cumulative 3.0 on a 4.0 scale);
- Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester
- Note: an internship assignment may coincide with a student’s last term/semester, however the student is required to disengage upon graduation.
Graduate students must meet the following application criteria:
- Full-time graduate student;
- Have a minimum of a B Average (cumulative 3.0 on a 4.0 scale)

SKILL & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate significant computer expertise, including MS Office applications
- Demonstrated ability in handling multiple priorities, project management and meeting deadlines
- Provide professional/academic references upon request from ACS and comply with all ACS pre-employment screening requirements including criminal background investigation
- Be able to work a minimum of 16 hours a week at the Division HQ office location during normal business operating hours

- 500-word essay summarizing their career intentions and interests and why they are interested with an internship at ACS
- Two references from academic/professional sources addressing the student’s credentials based on the internship’s skill requirements
