Job Description

STV's Chicago Transportation team has an immediate opportunity for a Midwest Highway/Civil Team Leader - Phase 2 Design, to join the team and participate in and further the development of transportation infrastructure projects throughout the state. Our Transportation division specializes in the planning and design of transportation facilities. These projects will serve to benefit the traveling public's experience for generations to come. We are looking for candidates who are truly interested in shaping the future of Illinois transportation related assets.

The primary focus of this role is on project delivery and management of technical staff for Phase 2 projects. You would be acting as a client-facing professional, actively driving growth through business development or workshare, while also delivering projects meeting client expectations, and company quality standards. Supporting Phase 1 projects may be required as needed.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to lead challenging projects while directing the efforts of multi-disciplinary teams and mentoring junior staff. You will work on a wide variety of projects focusing on roadway and bridge engineering and design. For this role, support will primarily be to projects and clients in Tennessee but could include involvement in surrounding states.


Experience with project oversight with both the design process and the coordination of a multidisciplinary team of design and quality professionals is required. Your involvement and leadership will be essential to performing at the highest level for our clients. At STV, your input and technical knowledge would also be valued while supporting project planning and aiding with proposal preparation.

Essential Functions

  • Manage and mentor assigned staff; including developing a training & growth plan for each reporting team member
  • Oversee, guide or lead projects or task delivery for both internal and external clients
  • Serve as project manager, discipline lead, or task lead on projects assigned to the team
  • Responsible for client satisfaction through timely submission of high-quality projects
  • Perform design, drafting, and prepare project documents as needed to complete work assignments
  • Actively pursue projects/tasks both externally and internally to support personal and team goals
  • Support business development pursuits and practice growth by networking, researching, and writing proposal content. May be asked to lead a pursuit or capture planning
  • Represent STV at industry events through attendance or participation in professional organizations
  • Lead one client service team which involves hosting quarterly meetings focused on the client to identify opportunities and create capture plans for winning projects
  • Responsible for client marketing strategy and implementation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
  • Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with highway design
  • Project or task management experience such as scope development, scheduling, client management, resource management, and invoicing
  • Proposal development and business development experience
  • Experience with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois Tollway, City of Chicago, and municipalities (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MicroStation V8i and MicroStation ORD
  • Good oral and written communication skills

*This role is not responsible for managing Profit and Loss or owning an area strategic plan. This role supports the Area Manager in meeting both the P/L and Strategic Growth goals of the Midwest Area.

Compensation Range:

$109,063.00 - $145,418.00
