Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY 
Primary responsibilities for the Industry Standards Engineer III involve internally coordinating DeZURIK’s position on assigned industry standards, representing these positions at the respective industry standard organization committee meetings, and then communicating the results internally for implementation and management by others for compliance purposes. 
 
Secondary responsibilities of the Industry Standards Engineer III include directing Canadian Registration Number (CRN) certifications for Sartell products, directing corporate patent applications, and supporting general technical support requests from internal and external customers. 
 
Limited guidance is expected. 
 
This position is currently eligible for DeZURIK’s hybrid work schedule. 
 
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS) 
Industry Standards Committees (Corporate)
  • Work with various assigned standards organizations such as ASME, API, AWWA, ISA, and MSS to develop and update industry standards by participating in meetings, serving on task forces, providing input and feedback on standards, and maintaining excellent voting records on ballots. 
  • Represent DeZURIK as a leader by taking on leadership roles such as task force chairman, committee chairman, or other leadership roles as the opportunities become available. 
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal subject matter experts (SME) and design/certification owners of the applicable internal product lines from each respective DeZURIK manufacturing site to provide technical input for updates to new and existing industry standards. Includes coordinating and collaborating with external SME consultants as required. 
  • Ensure proposed updates of industry standards further each standard’s cause for all external stakeholders yet represent and protect the company interests within the bounds of each respective standard association’s anti-trust guidelines.   
  • Communicate results of ballots internally for implementation and management by others for compliancy purposes, particularly the internal SMEs that own the design/certification of the applicable product lines emphasizing and promoting the importance of product line compliance 
  • Provide industry-standard technical support and standards update training to internal personnel.
  • Build relationships with the various committee members which include existing and potential customers, competitors, suppliers, and general interest members (engineering consultants, etc.). 
CRN (Sartell Products
  • Direct and manage CRN certification projects for Sartell products based on latest agency processes, codes, and standards. Includes technical review of certification packages.  
Patent Program (Corporate
  • Direct and manage patent application projects including coordinating and collaborating with the inventors and our patent attorney. 
General Technical Support 
  • Support general technical requests from internal and external customers. 
  • Follow company procedures and policies. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of product design and development experience with pressure-containing and mechanical products, preferably valves and actuators. 
  • Experience with ASME, API, AWWA, ISA, and MSS standards. Committee experience preferred. 
  • EIT/Professional Engineering (P.E.) registration preferred. Must be willing to obtain registration. 
 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 
  • Ability to professionally, and with discretion, represent DeZURIK in front of committee members consisting of existing and potential customers, competitors, suppliers, and general interest members (engineering consultants, etc.).  
  • Strong comprehension and retention skills. 
  • Strong communication skills (interpersonal, written, oral, & negotiation). 
  • Conversant in both classical and computer-aided analysis tools and be able to communicate proposals involving such tools to an industry standards committee.   
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements for design and development control and documentation. 
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented environment. 
  • Ability to conform to changing priorities, demands, and timelines. 
  • Willingness to stay current with emerging trends and developments in technical fields. 
  • Be aware of anti-trust laws and understand and abide by the anti-trust policies of DeZURIK and each standards organization. 
 PHYSICAL DEMANDS 
  • Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, and extensive use of a personal computer and telephone. 
  • Position requires movement around the facilities.  
  • Travel will be required 5 – 15% of time.
 WORKING CONDITIONS 
Normal manufacturing and office environment.  When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots).  Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.
