Manufacturing Supervisor-Special Metals Processing

Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Manufacturing Supervisor, Special Metals Processing, to be based out of Harvey, Illinois. Reporting to the Production Manager-Coil Processing, this person will be responsible for managing daily production activities with an emphasis on planning, organizing, and controlling production in the facility to ensure that goods are produced efficiently, and on time, while training operators on the production floor.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of previous supervisory experience in the metal industry; union and steel manufacturing experience preferred. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

What you'll do:

  • Manage all aspects of daily production by collaborating/leading the plant's team to meet/exceed production goals.
  • Lead, monitor, and supervise a team of hourly employees to achieve goals that contribute to the growth of the organization and their career including mentoring, training, setting performance expectations in partnership with employees.
  • Achieve the 5s goals ensuring a work environment that is clean, uncluttered, safe, and well-organized resulting in reduced waste and optimized productivity.
  • Maintain consistent and fair labor relations with the union workforce.
  • Accountable for developing and managing a team responsible for wide coil processing.
  • Ensure implementation and adherence to all health and safety procedures.
  • Proactively identify and implement process and quality improvements and initiate corrective and/or preventive actions when out of compliance.

What you'll bring:

  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience in the metal industry; steel manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of Lean Daily Management principles strongly preferred.
  • Basic computer skills in Excel, Word, Power Point and MS Project
  • Effective leadership skills and problem-solving techniques is a must.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, time management and organization.

Within 3 months, you'll:

  • Complete your Atkore Immersion Program
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's Business System through Lean Daily Management and the Strategy Deployment Process.
  • Gain an understanding of your team and the Operations Management team.

Within 6 months, you'll:

  • Identify ways to strengthen the team's commitment to Atkore's Business System.
  • Drive Lean Daily Management, including going to Gemba, and driving actions to solve problems permanently; updating hour by hour boards, Gemba and KPI visual boards.
  • Understand the strategy to improve and sustain net productivity while focusing on human capital development.

Within 12 months, you'll:

  • Deliver Atkore's Business System through Lean Daily Management and the Strategy Deployment Process.
  • Drive Lean Excellence strategy for your production department, while developing strategies and implementing projects to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.
  • Audit products and processes to ensure conformance to specifications and direct set-up and adjustments of machines.
