What you'll be doing
You will be joining the Administration team comprised of Legal, Corporate Secretary, Customer Complaint Handling, ESG and Government Relations. Collectively, this group enables CIBC's core purpose: to help make our clients' ambitions a reality. As the Head of US Government Relations, you will work closely with our business lines to manage legislative and political activities in a manner consistent with good corporate governance practices and in compliance with all legal requirements. In this capacity the Head of US Government Relations will oversee all US government relations activities and public advocacy policies and programs, and management of political and lobbying activities, including payments made by CIBC to associations.

How you'll succeed
Strong leadership - Build, lead and maintain the US Government Relations department to ensure a fair and appropriate regulatory environment in which CIBC can operate and grow its businesses.
Strategic development & execution - Develop an annual strategic plan for US government relations activities for CIBC. Manage CIBC's activities in all areas of US government relations (federal, state and local engagement as required). Recommend and implement strategies and develop programs or initiatives to address key regulatory and public policy issues.
Communications - Oversee the compilation of and submissions to US government or documents as required. Ensure representation of CIBC on external committees, task forces, advisory groups etc. You have the ability to make public appearances, speak on behalf of the sector at conferences and present to the board of directors.
Relationship management - Foster and enhance relationships with legislators, regulators, key staff, industry trade associations and partner organizations as well as with various leaders, departments and partners across the Bank. You negotiate with and influence partners to ensure alignment between priorities and deliverables across dependent initiatives.
People Leadership - Advance and promote the agenda of putting our people first, providing opportunities for US Government Relations team members to collectively and individually succeed. Lead development and execution of initiatives to build culture, partnering with teams to deliver appropriate communications, events, and content.
Project Management - You leverage a broad and deep understanding of best practices and approaches within Project Management in the delivery of initiatives and to influence/refine the practice within the broader team. You have a minimum of 10 years of government relations experience.
Creative Problem Solving - You have a demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguity, understand business context quickly and connect the dots. Must be comfortable operating at a strategic level and also driving into detail as needed, and back. Continuous improvement is part of your DNA.
