Position Summary, Requirements, and Qualifications
Overview | The Department of Mechanical Engineering (https://www.niu.edu/ceet/academics/mechanical-engineering/) within the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology at Northern Illinois University (NIU) anticipates hiring a tenure-track faculty position with specialization in thermal-fluid sciences, starting August 2024. The department offers degrees from B.S. to Ph.D. and currently has 16 faculty members, about 470 undergraduate students, and 35 graduate students. The Ph.D. program is new and will graduate its first students in the upcoming year.
NIU is a public research university in DeKalb, IL, an affordable and growing community that is a commutable distance from Chicago and Rockford metropolitan areas. The region has a strong industrial base with two national laboratories. Our 16,000+ student body is diverse, with many first-generation and racially and culturally diverse students. Position Summary | The Assistant Professor is expected to serve as an energetic and engaged educator for both undergraduate and graduate students, conduct externally funded research, publish in archival journals, and supervise students in experiential learning programs. The faculty member’s research agenda should strategically enhance the department’s portfolio in the field of thermal-fluid science. |
