POSITION OVERVIEW The government affairs team is the Partnerships voice on Capitol Hill, working to advance the organizations good government agenda by building bridges of understanding between federal agencies and Congress, advocating for a modernization of Americas civil service system and sharing the Partnerships work with committees, members and their staff. Interns on the government affairs team will follow Hill activity related to our core initiatives of civil service modernization, while helping deliver content to congressional staff and agency employees with the goal of improving understanding between branches of government. Interns will also assist with our new initiative, the Alliance for Congress, to help restore Congress as a co-equal branch of government. The Government Affairs team offers interns the opportunity to become more informed about the legislative process and the policies and practices of the federal government. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, teamwork and time management skills, flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and a commitment to public service. REPORTING STRUCTURE This position typically reports to a manager or associate manager. WORK ENVIRONMENT This job operates in a professional office environment in Washington, DC. This position requires consistent use of office equipment such as computer, telephone, printer and scanner. Please note that as a result of COVID-19, We are planning for this position to be hybrid work based in Washington, DC (a combination of remote work and some in-person office work or events), depending on specific team needs. Needs will be discussed during the interview stage of the hiring process. EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK Business hours are Monday-Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, though exact work hours may vary depending on availability and need. Academic schedules will be accommodated; a part-time schedule may be considered. There may be occasional early morning or evening activities required. A simple unnotarized copy of the official vaccination card or a notarized COVID-19 Vaccination Form attesting to full vaccination must be provided to the Vice President of Human Resources, prior to October 15, 2021. For new employees starting work with the Partnership on or after October 1, 2021, the documentation must be provided within two weeks after the start date. If you believe you qualify for an exception from the requirements of this policy, for medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs , you must provide a letter (on letterhead) from your doctor or clergy to the Vice President of Human Resources by the above deadline. The Partnership will explore potential reasonable accommodations for you that would not cause undue hardship to the Partnership.
